Pam Boehler, and I were at the Unity Center helping with meal prep for the beloveds on Friday morning. We always make 120 sandwiches with meat and cheese. Pam was working on thawing the sandwich meat and one of the men walked up to her and said something to her about the power of prayer. She said it was unusual because he didn’t greet her or anything. He just said that message. She said that she felt the Spirit when he spoke to her.
We started with the first 60 sandwiches and used 16 packages of the meat. We were amazed at how fast it was being used up. We wondered if the packages of meat didn’t hold as many helpings as they used to. While we were putting out the slices of bread, I found that one of the bread packages had a mouse hole and many pieces were chewed. That loaf needed to become chicken food.
As we started the second round of 60 sandwiches, we only had 11 packages of meat. The packages were identical to the first packages, but we had 5 packages less than the first round. We also only had 3 loaves of bread for the sandwich tops. We estimated that if there were 20 slices of bread in each loaf, we could make all 60 if we used all of the ends, too. But, just barely.
Some of us discussed that we could just add a second slice of cheese when we ran out of meat and just have cheese sandwiches. Or, we could just put one thin slice of meat on some of the sandwiches to lengthen it out.
All of a sudden, I remembered a couple of testimonies where the Lord answered prayer like the multiplying of the loaves and fishes. I became bold and said, “No! Loaves and fishes, Ladies! We’re going to pray that the Lord will provide what we need!” So, we prayed and continued making the sandwiches all alike: two slices of bread, one slice of cheese and two slices of meat.
When we finished, we were amazed to see that we still had a small amount of meat – enough for several sandwiches, and 5-6 slices of bread left. The Lord gave us enough and a little extra!
Praise the Lord and the mighty power of prayer!
