Theme: He is worthy – What does it mean to praise and adore?
Scripture: Psalm 63: 3-4 “Because thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in thy name.”
Definition What is praise? Glorifying God, saying He’s awesome and He’s done awesome things! Saying good things about God and thanking Him. We can praise Him by talking about Him, worshipping Him and living life like we love and represent Him.
Song Ideas: “He Is Worthy,” “Praise Him! Praise Him!” Elevation Worship’s “Praise” Music Activity for kids - Play/sing a song and let the kids sing, clap and dance to a Christian song (streamers or scarves)
Discussion: Humans are not perfect, but we do things that are worth praising sometimes. We might receive praise for being kind to our siblings, working hard on a work or school project or helping out with chores. Those are cool, but actually really small things! Our God is awesome, He created the universe and helps us every day! He created us and put us on a planet perfectly positioned so we’re not too close to our sun that we burn up, but not so far away that we freeze! He also created an atmosphere that protects us from the radiation our sun creates. He created body systems, so we’re able to breathe the oxygen in the atmosphere and breathe out CO2 that is used by plants in photosynthesis, which creates more oxygen for us to breathe! Our circulatory system moves the oxygen we breathe into our lungs and around to all the cells in our bodies. That same system removes the waste CO2 from us using the oxygen and takes it back to the lungs. There are many more systems in our bodies that help us live - He created it all and for this alone, deserves our praise. But, He did so much more than that. Not only did he create us, but He knew that we would sin, that that sin would separate us from him. So from the beginning of time He created a plan that would allow us to return to Him. He gave His only son - that’s why we have a hope of salvation. This is the biggest reason that He is worthy of our praise.
Discussion Questions - How can we praise Him? Where can we praise Him? What is the hope of salvation?
Activity: List an act or attribute of God for each letter of the alphabet which you would like to praise Him for. Write in a prayer journal outlining the things you’d like to praise Him for.
Directed Prayer time related to the theme: What are you thankful for? Pray and thank Him for that!. Our God is worthy of all praise!
